What Delighted Me This Week
A moving book, the soup we added to our weekly meal rotation, a majorly marked-down spring dress, and I may have chosen a paint color for the den (maybe).
The Rundown:
Reading this: After seeing it pop up on so many book-ish friend’s accounts, I finally started (and almost finished) Maame. It’s different than I thought - more moving, less storyline, more beautiful, sadder. Would I recommend it? Definitely. Is it one I think I’d read again? I’m not sure. If you enjoy coming-of-age stories, emotionally rich reads, and beautiful writing, I think you’d enjoy this. If you like for your books to be more of an escape and entertainment, this might not be for you.
Watching this: The husband and I tend to watch one more intense show and one lighter show. Neither of us can handle too much heavy but we love some grit. So we balance that out with lighter shows - Great British Bake Off, Amazing Race, etc. This is our current ‘gritty’ show - and it is phenomenal. And for a little lightness, we restarted Modern Family which has us laughing harder than anything we’ve watched in recent memory.
Listening to this: Listening and wheezing to this episode from one of my favorite podcasts.
Cooking this: Stew season is behind us but I’m not quite ready to give up on soups. We tried this very simple and even more delicious one for the first time this week and it was immediately added to the weekly rotation.
Wearing this: Can’t stop, won’t stop with this strip set (shorts + top). I’m wearing a medium in both and could have done a small in the shirt - it’s quite oversized. And this majorly marked-down dress from one of my favorite ethical brands also arrived yesterday and is excellent. I sized down to a small and am glad I did!
This week’s high: My photography season kicked off this week with a bridal session in Virginia, and it was wonderful to be back behind the camera. I was telling Seth this the other night, but it feels like the most natural thing - my brain is more at peace with a camera in hand than at any other time. And I’m really looking forward to the projects coming up in the next few months (so many beautiful things happening).
This week’s low: My heart has felt heavy this week. Maybe you feel this too, but the words we try to use to communicate how we feel after yet another school shooting and all that is happening in the Tenessee House fail me. Sad. Angry. Exhausted. Hopeful. Hopeless. Furious. Rageful. Confused. None of them seem enough.
This week according to my camera roll:
Here’s what I’m delighted by this week:
It’s terrible. It’s great. And I’m definitely watching it.
This is bringing my dry hair back to life. I apply a generous amount and cover it with a shower cap (I use this one) while I’m shaving and scrubbing. It leaves my hair soft, shiny, and silky without weighing it down.
Wondering where I can add rich green paint to my house after looking at this house tour.
Speaking of paint color, I think I may have landed on a color for the den.
I appreciated this post on six things we can do after the school shooting in Nashville.
How Ted Lasso came to be (it all started 20 years ago at a comedy club in Amsterdam)
Set your alarms for this drop on April 15th (the sunnies and swimwear look especially great).
Ginny Weasley (well…Bonnie Wright, that is!) is married! And it was beautiful.
I love to bake. Seth doesn’t love baked goods (who is this man I married). But he really loved these lemon bar butter cookies.
There’s a new social media getting some buzz. I’m still forming my thoughts, but claiming my username for the time being while also heaving a major sigh.
Color, DIY, and a house that reminds me of the things I love in my own. I loved this tour.
There’s a new French pin in town and she looks lovely. (here’s how I wear it)
Have a wonderful Easter weekend, friends!
